The firm wishes our long-time partner, Mel McDonald, congratulations on his retirement, effective December 31, 2021.

Mel earned his law degree from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law and his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Utah. Before joining JSH, Mel served as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, a prosecutor in the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, and a former Superior Court Judge for Maricopa County.

After joining JSH in 1985, Mel focused his practice in the areas of criminal defense and major civil litigation. He gained significant experience handling non-criminal white collar cases.

During his more than 35 years at the firm, Mel was involved in several local and national organizations. These roles include as a member of Marc Community Resources Inc.’s Board of Directors, the National Association of Former United States Attorneys, and the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, Member. He was previously an active member and leader in various community organizations including, Law Enforcement Advisory Committee’s Phoenix City Council, Arizona Lottery Commission, Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge’s Council of Trustees, and the Arizona Racing Commission.
