Administrative Professionals Recruiting

DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – Jones, Skelton & Hochuli is headquartered in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, with an office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a virtual presence in Utah.  JSH’s trial and appellate attorneys defend insureds, self-insureds, government entities, corporations, and professional liability insureds throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. JSH is growing and seeking a Director of Business Development to lead and support the expansion of business from the firm’s existing client base and position the firm, trial groups, and lawyers to secure new clients for the firm, generate incremental revenue, and build a business development culture in the firm.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Helps develop, implement, and manage the firm’s business development and client services plans consistent with firm strategies, goals, policies, and procedures. Regularly attends trial group meetings to advise and report on business development.
  • Sets strategic direction and manages/assigns projects and goals for marketing and communications, including brand strategy and implementation, public relations, digital marketing, social media, advertising, sponsorships, photography, promotional products, awards and rankings, event planning and support. Manages Marketing Manager.
  • Develops and manages the firm’s business development and client services annual budget, which includes BD/marketing expenditures for the firm, trial groups, and individual attorneys.  Codes and processes invoices related to the BD/marketing budget.
  • Creates metrics for measuring the success of the firm’s business development and marketing activities.
  • Sets the agenda and facilitates meetings of the firm’s Marketing Committee. Makes recommendations to the committee regarding major initiatives.
  • Supervises and coordinates the firm’s responses to RFPs and RFIs, including soliciting RFPs from appropriate prospective clients and drafting and submitting proposals for new business as needed.
  • Creates and maintains a database of the firm’s relevant representative matters that integrates with the firm’s proposal creation process, communication strategies, and marketing efforts.
  • Develops and implements the firm’s client relations program, including key client teams and client feedback initiatives.
  • Uses metrics to demonstrate the firm’s comparative advantages with regard to cycle times, cost per matter, actual costs vs. budgeted, favorable outcomes, and value. Educates the firm’s attorneys in this regard.
  • Coordinates or delivers training in business development and client service. Tracks participation and progress and encourages tailored business development approaches for each attorney and trial group in all locations.

Competency

  • Must demonstrate initiative, be highly organized, able to manage multiple projects while prioritizing work assignments, and able to work well with attorneys and staff at all levels in the organization.
  • Must have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to set goals and develop, interpret, and report on metrics that measure success and performance.
  • Able to implement projects that will improve online presence, visibility, and performance.
  • Excellent writing skills and understanding of the attorney-client relationship.
  • Able to evaluate opportunities for business development and manage a budget.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro/Creative Suite, and website content management systems (WordPress).
  • Understands the needs and expectations of law firm clients. Experience writing proposals and responses to RFPs preferred. Experience working in insurance defense litigation a plus.

Education

  • College degree or equivalent work experience. Concentration in marketing, business, or communications strongly preferred. MBA or JD a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years business development/marketing experience (manager/director/assistant director) in a professional services environment; law firm experience preferred.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEYS – Join our growing legal defense team of 100 attorneys in Arizona and New Mexico. JSH is hiring for the following associate attorney positions:

  • 1-5 years of experience in General Liability & Auto
  • 2+ years of experience in Health Care & Medical Malpractice Defense
  • 2-4 years of experience in Commercial Litigation
  • 2-5 years of experience in Trucking and Transportation
  • 2-5 years of experience in Construction Defect

Ideal candidates will possess a good understanding of civil litigation and a drive to provide exceptional client service. Candidates must be highly motivated, have excellent academic credentials, and work well individually and as part of a legal team. We will consider out-of-area and out-of-state candidates on a teleworking basis, or in some cases, provide a relocation reimbursement for candidates who possess the qualifications listed.

ATTORNEY QUALIFICATIONS:
