It’s time to introduce our 2024 Spring Writing Intern, Princewill Ekwuribe, currently a 2L at ASU Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law. Prince hails from Austin, Texas, and did his undergraduate work at Texas State University. When he began considering law school while a sophomore in college, he first thought it was only something for people who were very well-connected, or who had family members who were lawyers for generations. Once those myths were dispelled, he knew it was the right field for him to pursue.
Having applied to many law school programs, he felt ASU was the best fit. Prince enjoys living in Arizona, and really likes his fellow students and professors. He was excited to learn about the Diversity Legal Writing Program, which provides diverse law students at ASU with a 12-week private law firm internship during the spring semester. Students receive mentorship, critical feedback on their writing, and access to other resources. It is a partnership between the State Bar Council on Women & Minorities in the Law and the Maricopa County Bar Foundation, along with private law firms throughout the Valley, created to promote the recruitment and retention of diverse lawyers. It is a competitive and merit-based opportunity, and Princewill highly recommends it to his ASU peers.
Kimberly Page shared: “I met Prince when he competed for the Jenckes Closing Argument Competition, and I was immediately impressed with his natural talent for oral advocacy. Now as our writing clerk, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to witness his development as it relates to the different types of writing we encounter in the litigation process. Prince always has a positive attitude and a professional outlook that will serve him well in his promising career ahead.”
Since January, Kimberly and Prince have worked closely together on projects like learning to summarize plaintiff’s depositions and research on dram shop cases. Prince has also worked with JSH partner Gary Linder, who focuses much of his work on retail and hospitality matters.
Prince said, “Everyone I have met at JSH so far has been very friendly and helpful. I truly feel that I will reach my goals of writing more concisely and clearly. When I began law school, I didn’t know what kind of specialization I wanted, but through my experience at JSH, I’ve decided that a litigation career is the best use of my personality and talents. I look forward to being able to help my future clients and do some pro bono work as well.”
