Jones, Skelton & Hochuli is pleased to welcome law clerks Michael Brown, Julieta Carrillo, Jennifer Martin, and Seraphim Sparrow. Each clerk graduated from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in May 2021.

Before their final year at ASU, Michael, Julieta, Jennifer and Seraphim worked at the firm as 2020 summer associates. During their virtual summer clerkship, they worked with attorneys in various practice areas, handled research and writing projects, participated in the day-to-day practice of law in the private sector, and observed hearings, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.

Michael Brown joins the firm’s Transportation, Auto, Products & General Liability Defense Trial Group. During law school, he served as an articles editor for the Arizona State Law Journal and as an advocate on the ASU Law Trial Team. He was an active member of the ASU Mock Trial Team, where he handled case themes, opening and closing arguments, and direct and cross-examinations. These skills were further reinforced during his summer internship at Maricopa County Superior Court and a Federal District Court externship. Mike earned his undergraduate degree in political science at the State University of New York at Albany.

Julieta Carrillo joins the firm’s General & Auto Liability Defense Trial Group. While earning her law degree, Julietta served as the editor-in-chief of the Law Journal for Social Justice. She was also awarded the Los Abogados Cordova Scholarship, named in honor of Arizona’s first Latino Federal Judge, the Hon. Valdemar A. Cordova. In addition, Julieta worked as a legal intern with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, where she attended court proceedings and witness interviews. Before law school, Julieta earned her undergraduate degree in political science at the University of New Mexico (UNM).

Jennifer Martin joins the firm’s Professional Liability, Bad Faith & Complex Litigation Defense Trial Group. She will work as a paralegal/law clerk while studying for the bar exam in February 2022. During law school at ASU, Jennifer gained experience drafting motions and pleadings, confer letters, and settlement agreements, especially in the TCPA, FCRA, and FDCPA consumer protection litigation spaces. She also served as an extern for the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, handling complex projects including drafting a total rewrite of Arizona Manual for Courts-Martial and proposed updates to Arizona Code of Military Justice, which was then given to the state legislature. Jennifer earned simultaneous undergraduate degrees from the University of Arizona, summa cum laude, in dance and political science, and a pre-law minor.

Working in JSH’s Transportation, Auto, Products & General Liability Defense Trial Group, Seraphim Sparrow uses his previous experience as a law clerk at a local insurance defense firm, where he learned how to prepare formal office memoranda for insurance defense, construction defect, and corporate cases. He was responsible for status reports to insurance providers and assisted with various court filings. He also served as an extern with the Honorable Judge Kenton Jones on the Arizona Court of Appeals. Seraphim earned his undergraduate degree in political science, with honors, from the University of California, Davis.
