The Maricopa County Bar Association (MCBA) Real Estate, Construction, and Environmental Sections hosted a virtual CLE program, “So Your Client Wants to Develop Some Land,” on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. JSH attorney John Gregory presented an overview of construct defect claims from start to finish, including issues that may arise after building is complete.

The three-hour CLE explored the process of land development and potential issues, including:

  • Due diligence considerations including title, survey, environmental, and zoning review
  • Potential issues when tearing down existing structures, including historic designations, native American artifacts, bodies
  • What permits are needed
  • How to deal with expansive soils
  • Construction defects that arise and the Statute of Repose
  • Seller Property Disclosure Statement
  • Water issues
