Jones, Skelton & Hochuli is pleased to welcome back six of our 2023 Summer Associates: Colin Cantu, Matt Holt, Josie Jasmin, Melynda Meyrick, Grace Sluga, and Tyler Miller. They will be serving as Law Clerks until the July 2024 Bar Results are in and we can announce them as full-fledged Associates.
Colin Cantu received a B.A. in Political Science and History from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington in 2021. His J.D. is from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where he served as one of the 3L class representatives in the Student Bar Association and was a member of the ASU Mock Trial Team. He served as the ASU Saint Thomas More Society Secretary/Historian and is a lector at Saint Mary’s Basilica for Saturday Night Mass. He previously interned for the Honorable Pamela Gates with the Maricopa County Superior Court. Colin will be joining our Transportation Trial Group.
Matt Holt received his Juris Doctor and Masters of Sports Law and Business Candidate from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where he served as Moot Court Board President, American Constitution Society Treasurer, the Senior Fellow for Scholarship of the McCarthy Institute, and a Note and Comment Editor on the Corporate & Business Law Journal. He previously worked as a Legal Extern for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Civil Litigation Division, as well as for Bacardi, where he led a research project covering the laws of every state regarding alcohol pricing. Matt graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Political Science and History. He will be joining our General Liability Trial Group.
Josie Jasmin earned her J.D. from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where she was the Executive Articles Editor of the Sports and Entertainment Law Journal, President and Founder of the First Generation Law Association, and a member of the Women Law Students Association. She has worked as a Law Clerk researching 41 U.S.C. 1983 claims and drafting complaints, Notices of Claim, and other legal documents. During her undergraduate years at Michigan State University, Josie collected and analyzed data related to gender roles and the role of female attorneys in briefs and oral arguments before the Supreme Court, and also served as a Congressional Intern for Congresswoman Debbie Dingell. Josie received her B.A. in Political Science/Pre-Law in 2020. She will be joining our General Liability/Auto Trial Group at JSH.
Melynda Meyrick received her B.A. in Political Science with Minors in Chinese and History from Southern Illinois University. Her J.D. is from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where she served as a research assistant for ASU Professor Dr. Linda Demaine and as a Law Clerk for Federal Immigration Counselors, PC, assisting attorneys in trial preparation and working with DHS and U.S. Embassies in relation to consular processing. She was the Associate Editor of the Corporate and Business Law Journal, and a member of the Black Law Student Association, Phoenix Legal Action Network, and the Diverse Student Coalition. Melynda will be joining our Municipal & Employment Trial Group.
Grace Sluga recently received her J.D. from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where she was a member of the Law Women’s Association and the Latino Law Student Association, as well as a Managing Editor for the Arizona Law Review. She gained legal experience while working as an Extern drafting prosecutorial discretion motions, briefs for asylum cases, humanitarian parole requests, and notices of appeal, and recently worked as a Clinical Law Student for the Workers’ Rights Clinic. Her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Spanish Literature is also from the University of Arizona, where she was a member of Chi Omega, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Student Services Fee Advisory Board. Grace joins the JSH General Liability Trial Group.
Tyler Miller returns to JSH after graduating summa cum laude from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. He was awarded The Order of the Coif and The Order of the Barristers, as well as earning a Trial Advocacy Certificate and 7 CALI Awards for Excellence, including Civil Procedure II and Evidence. In 2021 he won the Jenckes Closing Argument Competition against the University of Arizona, and was a staff writer for the Arizona State Law Journal and a member of the ASU Mock Trial Team. He has worked for the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office and as a paralegal at law firms in Arizona and New Jersey. Tyler earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, where he was also Team Captain of the undergraduate Mock Trial Team. He served as a Mock Trial Coach for Davis High School, as well.
