JSH is proud to introduce our 2026 Summer Associates for the New Mexico office, all of whom are attending the University of New Mexico School of Law. Nathanael Fernandes, Adam Helmick, and Matthew Lee will have the opportunity to work with lawyers in a variety of practice areas, managing research and writing projects, and observing hearings, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations. It’s a great way to learn about the day-to-day practice of law. Plus, this year’s program includes weekly training sessions on substantive and skill-based topics and multiple social events.

Nathanael Fernandes earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a focus in finance and a minor in economics from Rotman Commerce, University of Toronto. He just completed his 2L year, where he served as the New Mexico Law Review Staff Editor. His work experience includes interning at Queen’s Park Office for Member of Provincial Parliament and with a law firm specializing in criminal and civil rights defense. Prior to law school, Nathanael played violin and piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music for over 15 years.

Adam Helmick first attended the University of New Mexico as an undergrad, where he received his B.A. cum laude in political science with a minor in psychology. Now as a JD Candidate there, he earned a CALI Award (Elements of Legal Argumentation II) and has served as the Professional Article Editor. Adam worked as a legal intern with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office, advocating on behalf of victims.

Matthew Lee graduated with a B.S. in finance from Brigham Young University, where he had the opportunity to participate in the International Business Study Abroad Program in Italy, France, and England. He is a member of the UNM Student Trial Lawyers, UNM Asia Pacific Law Student Association, and the NM Trial Lawyers Association. During law school he has been a legal intern for personal injury firms as well as the Nueces County 214th District Court in Corpus Christi, TX. Matthew is an Eagle Scout who loves geography, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and volunteering.
